However there was a lack of drinking water by then. One day while the children of these families were playing by the seaside they found a water spring that was covered by reeds.

They started shouting “kalamaki kalamaki which means “reeds reeds” in Greek language. Ever since the village was called Kalamaki. As years passed by some Turkish Muslim families came here from inlands also for trading purposes and they started living together
